In his speech, Qiu Yong congratulated Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on being appointed as an honorary professor at Tsinghua University. He stated that China and Malaysia are separated by a sea, but their friendship has lasted for thousands of years. Tsinghua University actively plays the role of a bridge to promote people-to-people exchanges and facilitate mutual learning between civilizations, and has maintained long-term cooperative relationships with Malaysian universities and research institutions. As early as 2006, the university signed a memorandum of cooperation with Anwar Ibrahim’s alma mater, the University of Malaya. In 2017, Tsinghua University initiated the establishment of the Asian Universities Alliance, with the University of Malaya being one of its founding members. He also expressed his pleasure in seeing a group of outstanding students from Malaysia come to Tsinghua University every year, where they study, enhance their abilities, experience and understand China, and strive to become ambassadors of friendship to promote the development of China-Malaysia relations. In the future, Tsinghua University will further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with its Malaysian partners, work to deepen mutual understanding and friendship between the younger generations of the two countries, and make new and greater contributions to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
